Jarrett Keith sees a way from Incarceration to Faith

Jarret Keith, founder of Testimony Ministries, talks about God’s call to bring equity, freedom, and joy to our incarcerated and formerly incarcerated neighbors. He graduated from Fuller Seminary with a Master of Arts in Theological Studies in 2021.

Jarrett grew up in a community filled with poverty, gangs, and violence. By his teenage years, he was addicted to drugs and dealing them. He was eventually incarcerated for 15 years, which he described as the most tragic and hopeless experience in his life.

While in jail, he attended a church service on Wednesdays. He initially attended to get out of his cell but eventually began listening to the testimonies and the gospel. Through these services, he found joy, hope, and peace for the first time. One night, he fell on his knees and cried out to God. He believed and asked God for help.

Since then, God has drastically changed him. Even though he was incarcerated, he started to see his value. He participated in programs and eventually came to Fuller Seminary.

Jarrett shared the struggles of people who are incarcerated after they are released. He hopes to see more believers welcomed back into faith communities and churches. He also hopes to see people of God move beyond spiritual needs to address societal needs of those who are experiencing mass incarceration.

Jarrett’s story is not unique, and he believes God can change anyone’s life. He concluded the video with a call to action, saying that God is calling us to help bring equity and freedom to our neighbors and we can be a part of that.
